Thursday, August 5  9:30 AM – 3:30 PM (at The Woodlands, 4000 Woodland Avenue)

In this two-day professional development experience, teachers will take a deep dive into the history of paper-making and the current role it plays in our lives.   Day 1 will be virtual and will focus on the influence of East and South Asian cultures on the development of paper-making techniques.  Day 2 will be in-person at The Woodlands (rain location - Penn Museum) and will give teachers an opportunity to participate in every step of traditional Japanese paper-making from harvesting living tree material to creating useable stationery. PLEASE NOTE - weather permitting, we will spend most of Day 2 outdoors in the shade.

Teachers will receive 8 hours of continuing education credits.

There will be a one-hour lunch break on Day 2 for lunch on your own.

Parking vouchers are available for teachers who drive.

Co-sponsored by the South Asia Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
